Along
'the west coast of New England' is Vermont's Champlain
Valley. Its geography, culture, history, and climate
create an award-winning environment of special quality
and unparalleled beauty.
Lake
Champlain (sometimes called America’s 6th Great
Lake) provides a wealth of recreational opportunities
in summer: sailing, swimming, water-skiing, scuba diving,
kayaking, canoeing, fishing, boating, and windsurfing.
In addition bike paths, trails, and parks are found
practically in every town. Fantastic views of the brilliant
lake and rolling foothills, as well as the Green and
Adirondack Mountains are never far from sight.
Winter brings a completely different set
of recreational opportunities throughout and near the
Champlain Valley. Some of the very best skiing and riding
resorts in the East are less than an hour away. Some
residents cross-country ski or snowshoe right out their
door, or on excellent trails close by. Many towns have
favorite spots for skating, sledding, snowmobiling,
and ice fishing along the frozen bays.
The Champlain Valley's 'in-between' seasons bring apple
picking and leaf peeping in fall amid spectacular color.
In the spring Vermonters joke about our fifth season...
Mud Season. But fortunately it's short, and the potholes
are quickly forgotten as the fields and mountains awake
with verdent green color that makes it easy to see why
Vermont is known as the 'Green Mountain State'.
