The town of Colchester was one of the first settled by Ira and Ethan Allen (of Green Mountain Boys fame). The beautiful area features gently rolling land with few hills. It is bordered on three sides by water... the Lamoille River to the north, the Winooski River to the south and Lake Champlain to the west.

One of the most beautiful spots along the lake is Colchester's Mallets Bay with its numerous marinas, campgrounds, lakeshore residences and summer cottages. Ample opportunities for recreation exist with more than 170 acres of public parkland in the town, plus an additional 634 acres of natural areas.

Colchester’s high quality schools provide public education to approximately 2,450 students. The campus of well-regarded St. Michael's College is also located in Colchester, just east of the town's border with Winooski.
