Milton is one of the fastest growing communities in Chittenden County. The
population has quadrupled since 1960. Chartered in 1763,
early settlers toiled as lumberjacks, mill workers,
and farmers. Today, just a few working farms remain
as Milton has laregly become a bedroom community for
Burlington 15 miles to the south. Canadian machine manufacturer,
Husky, is the largest employer in Milton. Efforts are
underway to attract additional business to the industrial
park located at on the former grounds of the stock car
racing site called Catamount Stadium.
Milton has long been admired for its natural beauty.
You'll find impressive views of Lake Champlain, old-growth
forest, open farmland, and the Lamoille River winding
through the sprawling 60 plus square miles that comprise
the town. Fans of nature enjoy canoeing and tubing on
the Lamoille, and boating and birding at Lake Arrowhead
on the north side of town. Milton also offers swimming
and boating access at nearby Sand Bar State Park, a
very popular destination for tourists and resident families
located just before the causeway to the Champlain Islands.
