Gene Richards

Gene Richards is a life-long Vermonter and has been a resident of Burlington for the past 28 years. As CEO and Founder of Spruce Mortgage, Gene has created a brokerage model that works for the company, his employees, and the community. As a leader in financing, Spruce Mortgage is the highest volume brokerage in the state and has been since the inception of data collection in 1997. Gene’s Bank of Boston background gave him the foundation and philosophy for his success at Spruce – Loyalty, Integrity, and Creativity.

Gene has been a highly regarded landlord in Burlington for the past 25 years. He offers quality apartment rentals in Burlington and enjoys the relationships that he has with his 150 tenants. In addition, Gene builds and renovates homes and has other business and consulting interests. Gene spends much of his time “giving back” by working on behalf of many nonprofit organizations and serves on the Stern Center Board, on the Lund Family Center Board, on the Burlington Country Club Board, as President of the Burlington Tennis Club Board, as Chair of the Red Cross Blood Services Advisory Board, on the Burlington Airport Commission, on the Act 250 Commission and on the Church Street Marketplace Commission. Gene is an Honorary Board Member of the Burlington Boys and Girls Club and a past member of The Queen City Police Foundation.

Gene lives in Burlington with his wife, Julie and their two sons Eugene and Stephen.
